Review by Horace Austin
Eddie and I were front row directly in front of Pete Townshend. We didn't recognize any other fans in the first few rows. I had invited my friend Mike up to the front. He declined. He was recording the show (audio only). It's just as well. Security was strict through most of the Quadrophenia set. They relaxed during the encore.
A technical issue delayed the start by a few minutes. The video for "I Am the Sea" never ran. But, once the band rolled into "The Real Me", the technical side of the show ran smoothly.
Some lyrical flubs by Pete came early during Quad. For example, he sang the beginning of "Cut My Hair" like it was "5:15" (to be fair, this is only the 5th show of the tour).
Pete made amends with a tasty version of "Drowned". When he sang about drowning in your sweet, sweet love, he threw in a line about going down to the Ohio River.
All in all, another terrific show by Pete, Roger & Co. I turned around to look at the audience after "Love Reign O'er Me". I saw pure adulation. Likewise after "Won't Get Fooled Again". A powerful response from a town that hadn't hosted a Who show since 2000.
