Pete performs at Peter Green tribute show

Pete Townshend performed at an all-star tribute concert to honour Peter Green and the early music of Fleetwood Mac at the London Palladium on February 25th. The charity event was put on by Peter Green’s fellow Fleetwood Mac co-founder Mick Fleetwood, with proceeds to benefit Teenage Cancer Trust.

Also on the bill were Christine McVie, David Gilmour, Noel Gallagher, Billy Gibbons, John Mayall, Steven Tyler, Neil Finn, Andy Fairweather Low, Rick Vito, Kirk Hammett, Bill Wymann, Jonny Lang, Ricky Peterson, and Zak Starkey.

Pete played the blues song “Station Man”, a track off of Fleetwood Mac’s 1970 Kiln House album, which was their first album after Peter Green left the band. Pete apologized for playing a post Green song, but demonstrated how the chord sequence of the song influenced his guitar part on "Won't Get Fooled Again". He said that he didn't know Peter Green very well, but he had met him a few times around his hometown of Richmond, and Peter came to his studio and recorded some music, but nothing ever came of it. Pete thought he was still somewhat of a sad story.

Pete returned to the stage at the end of the show with his J200 acoustic guitar and sang backup on the grand finale of “Shake Your Moneymaker”.

The concert was recorded by Glyn Johns, and there are plans for a theatrical film directed by Martyn Atkins in June, followed by a Bluray and CD box set release later in the year.
