The Who will release new album 'Live at the Eden Project' in May

Eden Project

The Who have announced that they will release Live at the Eden Project on 29 May 2026!

The new album features The Who's orchestral performance that took place on 25 July 2023 at the picturesque Eden Project in Cornwall, the spectacular garden famous for it's incredible geodesic Biomes.

The outdoor setting and sound quality at this iconic venue made for a wonderful environment to stage a Who show. According to the press release, "The Eden Project’s natural acoustics and enclosed structures created a warm, detailed sonic environment that offered a clarity and intimacy unmatched by traditional stadium settings. The recording reflects this unique atmosphere." A fan who attended the concert reported that there was also a pro film crew there, so hopefully a video of The Who playing against such a scenic backdrop will surface some day.

The Eden Project concert was one of the last performances of UK leg of The Who Hits Back tour, which took the band to a series of lovely outdoor venues around England and Scotland that included castles, cricket grounds, rugby stadiums, a horse trials estate, and finally a special Heritage Live appearance at the Royal Sandringham Estate.

These were the last shows The Who performed with an orchestra, ending an era that began with the Moving On tour in 2019. The Who also released an album of their 2019 orchestral performance at Wembley Stadium a few months before this 2023 UK tour kicked off, which is a nice bookend for the Eden Project show.

The Who performed at the Eden Project with the Heart of England Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Keith Levenson, and featuring Katie Jacoby on violin and Audrey Snyder on cello. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey were backed by their excellent touring band of Simon Townshend on guitar, Zak Starkey on drums, Jon Button on bass, Billy Nicholls on backing vocals, and Loren Gold on keyboards.

The setlist included beautiful orchestral medleys from Tommy and Quadrophenia, along with many of their greatest hits, with a band only section in the middle that features a nice set of early singles from the 60’s. It’s a really great selection of songs that spans The Who's career.
